Installing Bush Ex Cams

Bush's strengths came together in one night. He was scary via run or pass and had different instincts that allowed him to see things others didn't. He was a game changer.

I have a bunch of bushes that I can sell at shipping cost. They will need to be reaming. The cases can be removed much easier if they are heated before.

Reaming is required

Some cam cover bushings are aftermarket and require reaming. This is because the bushing may be larger than the cam journal. The bushing can be damaged by a camshaft if it is not reamed. It is therefore important to check clearance before installing any new bushing. You can do this by sliding the camshaft into the bushing and comparing it to the original cover. It is also helpful to take the cover and bushings to a machine shop to ensure that they are aligned. If you are looking for a quick way to do this, you can use an adjustable reamer. This will make your job easier.

Hugie Hancox has a DVD where he shows how to fit the drive side bushing without reaming it but this is not a good idea.

Easy to install

Kibblewhite bushes have a high quality and they are easy to install. It is important to check that the bushes are not too large before installing them. A bush that is too large will cause the cam journal contact the bush, causing it to lose lift. It is important to know if the bushes are solid or sintered. A sintered bush will have a mottled surface and tiny spaces between metal grains. It is easier to remove a sintered bush by heating it before trying to remove it.
